Deacons 7th Annual Investment Products and Regulatory Forum

On 21 May 2015, four hundred guests from Hong Kong’s financial services industry gathered for Deacons 7th Annual Investment Products and Regulatory Forum, held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This year, for the first time, our flagship conference was a full day event. The morning session focused on investment management issues while the afternoon session addressed hedge fund and private equity fund concerns.

We were honoured to have Ashley Alder, Chief Executive Officer of the Securities and Futures Commission, open the forum with a keynote address. In his speech, after sharing his thoughts on global issues of relevance to the asset management industry, Mr Alder addressed the development of more local headline initiatives such as the mutual recognition of funds between Hong Kong and Mainland China, Shanghai-Hong Kong Stock Connect, and the proposed Shenzhen-Hong Kong Stock Connect. He also focused on the ongoing development of Hong Kong as the Asian asset management centre.

Other highlights included our forum’s signature session: “Meet the regulator”, in which Deacons’ Partner Jeremy Lam led a discussion with Julia Leung, Executive Director of the Securities and Futures Commission, on the way forward for investment products. The day’s proceedings also included lively discussions covering regulatory risk mitigation; investment management trends; IT security risks; business management issues (focusing on employment, outsourcing, and disclosure obligations); SFC inspections; and accessing China markets.

We would like to express our gratitude to all guest speakers for their contribution to this event. We would also like to thank those who attended on the day for their support and active participation.
