On 17th October, the Law Society of Hong Kong held the 4th Cross-Strait Four Regions Young Lawyers Forum at the Jockey Club in Happy Valley. This is the annual flagship event of the Law Society, giving lawyers from Mainland China, Taiwan, Macau and Hong Kong an opportunity to meet up. This year, the event attracted about 200 participants including speakers, lawyers’ association representatives and young lawyers from 26 provinces and cities of Mainland China. The theme for this year’s event was how young lawyers could turn challenges into opportunities and equip themselves for a more promising career against the background of globalization.
Franki Cheung and Myles Seto were honoured to be invited to participate in the event. Franki was invited as the moderator of a panel discussion in the main plenary session. The panellists included Mr. Anthony Chow, previous president of the Law Society and two senior bankers from Bank of China (Hong Kong) Limited and Hang Seng Bank Limited. The discussion covered the recent developments of the legal professional under globalization, as well as the perennial hot topic of the use of Renminbi in the international market as well as discussing banking practice on anti-money-laundering in view of the integration of global economy.
Myles was invited as a panellist in an afternoon break-out session on “Assets Management under Globalization of Economy”. In additional to Myles, who acted as the representative from Hong Kong, the panel included lawyers from three other jurisdictions. Myles shared with the audience recent developments in the Hong Kong legal and regulatory systems which enhance the business of the asset management industry in Hong Kong, and how the industry benefited young lawyers.
Franki and Myles met old contacts and made new friends, thereby strengthening valuable relationships and promoting the firm's brand as Hong Kong's world class law firm.
