Hong Kong’s Employees’ Compensation Levels to Increase

Employees’ compensation insurers should note that with effect from 5 March 2015, levels of compensation will be increased:

  • under the Employees’ Compensation Ordinance, Cap 282 (ECO) for employees injured at work or suffering from prescribed occupational diseases or their family members (in fatal cases);
  • under the Pneumoconiosis and Mesothelioma (Compensation) Ordinance, Cap 360 (PMCO) for persons suffering from pneumoconiosis and/or mesothelioma or family members of persons who died of the disease(s);
  • under the Occupational Deafness (Compensation) Ordinance, Cap 469 (ODCO) for persons suffering from occupational deafness.

The levels of compensation are reviewed every two years and adjustments made, as necessary, with reference to changes in wage movements (as reflected by the Nominal Wage Index) and price movements (as reflected by the Consumer Price Index).
