The Young Post shines a spotlight on Deacons’ innovative ‘ABCs of Law’ programme

The Young Post, a supplement of the South China Morning Post has published an in-depth article celebrating Deacons’ collaboration with the charity Hans Anderson Club for the fifth year of ‘The ABCs of Law’ programme.

The 4 page article appeared in the April edition of the Young Post’s Special Report which is dedicated to corporate social responsibility and supporting young talent.

‘Making the case for learning law’, explains how the programme helps school-age children from less privileged backgrounds  to develop their knowledge of the justice system and understand their individual rights and obligations as members of the Hong Kong community through the medium of drama, stories and learning kits.

The article features several quotes from children who have participated in the programme and conveys the value they have gained from taking part in this innovative scheme, “I used to think that rules are just guidelines for do’s and don’ts, but in fact they also act as protection of our rights”, 14 year old Danny Wong said.

At a time when Hong Kong citizens are becoming increasingly impatient for a greater voice in government, our ‘ABC s of Law’ programme provides a valuable opportunity for the city’s children to express their views and understand the relationship between law and society.

Deacons’ Graduate Recruitment and Professional Development Manager Ava Lam, trainee solicitor Katie Wan and Senior Marketing Manager Gaby BrandonKing also feature in the piece, explaining why the programme is so popular.
