Tax professionals and taxpayers alike have in recent years noted an increasingly aggressive and diffident stance of the IRD with respect to offshore claims. The purpose of this seminar is to provide a robust and comprehensive introduction to the administrative, legal, and forensic issues relating to offshore claim disputes with the IRD. We will begin with a brief technical overview of the law and practice governing Hong Kong’s territorial tax system, and then consider in depth the IRD’s policy with respect to offshore claims, strategies for practitioners and taxpayers to maximise their chances of being successful in asserting an offshore claim, and strategic and practical considerations for dealing with additional assessments and the objections process, all the way to appeals to the Board of Review. This seminar is aimed at both practitioners and in-house tax, compliance, and finance functions, with a view to providing attendees with a broad and pragmatic perspective of this fraught and at times complex area of Hong Kong revenue law.
