We are delighted to announce that Deacons picked up a Citizenship Award at The Asian Lawyer Asia Legal Awards.
The award related to the ABCs of Law programme, organised by the firm’s corporate social responsibility initiative Deacons Cares.
The Asia Legal Awards were presented at a gala dinner at the JW Marriott in Hong Kong. The awards recognise the best examples of complex, high-stakes legal work and corporate social responsibility in the region.
The Asian Lawyer stated in their write-up:
Working closely with the Hans Andersen Club, Deacons created an education program specially designed to help children in Hong Kong develop their knowledge of the justice system and understand their rights and obligations as members of Hong Kong’s community.
At the first workshop, “Law and Society,” Deacons volunteers performed an interactive story to the children and led them to create an ideal set of school rules. Children were provided with a learning kit especially designed for the workshop to vote on their favourite rules and discuss the pros and cons of each.
At a time when Hong Kong citizens are becoming increasingly impatient for a greater voice in government, this program provides a valuable opportunity for the city’s children to express their views and understand the relationship between law and society. Deacons’ volunteers also shared their aspirations in studying law and encouraged children, too, to follow their dreams.
