Justin has extensive experience in litigation, arbitration and dispute resolution. Specialising in construction, he advises on a wide variety of private and government construction projects in Hong Kong and Macau. Justin’s clients include the government, developers and contractors, and he advises on both contentious and non-contentious construction matters. Apart from construction, Justin also has substantial experience in handling cross-border dispute resolution.

Justin is regularly invited to speak at industry conferences and seminars on construction topics.

Commercial Dispute Resolution

  • Acting for two PRC companies (being subsidiaries of a PRC listed company) in defending an HKIAC arbitration brought by another PRC company (a subsidiary of a Hong Kong listed company) and its related offshore company for the clients’ alleged breaches of a sale and purchase agreement in respect of the shares of another PRC company.
  • Acting for a Hong Kong listed company and its US subsidiary in resisting the enforcement by a main contractor of a US arbitration award against our clients in respect of a construction project in the US.
  • Advising a European healthcare technology company in a potential arbitration against its customer in the PRC for its failure to pay for the retinal screening equipment duly sold and delivered.
  • Acting for a PRC listed company and its subsidiary to commence arbitrations in Hong Kong against a main contractor in relation to outstanding sums for renovation works carried out at a hotel tower of a major casino in Macau under 2 sub-contracts.
  • Acting for a Taiwan businessman and his wholly owned offshore company, who commenced ICC arbitrations in Hong Kong against a Hong Kong company (being a subsidiary of a Japan listed corporation), for breaches of the Equity Transfer Agreement in respect of the sale and purchase of shares of a PRC company held by the clients.
  • Acting for a PRC businessman and its related company in an arbitration brought by a German listed company regarding their joint venture business.
  • Acting for a PRC businessman in his disputes with another shareholder in a Hong Kong company and its PRC subsidiary.
  • Acting for a PRC company in its disputes with other shareholders in a Hong Kong company and its Dutch subsidiaries.
  • Acting for a Taiwan department store group in its dispute with other shareholders in a Hong Kong company and its PRC subsidiary.
  • Acting for an Egyptian company to commence legal proceedings against a Hong Kong company for breach of contract.
  • Acting for the Hong Kong subsidiary of a US camera manufacturing group to commence legal proceedings against its Hong Kong battery supplier for breach of contract.
  • Acting for a German corporation in a shareholders’ dispute involving a BVI company and its wholly-owned subsidiary in PRC.
  • Acting for a PRC property developer in Hong Kong Court proceedings regarding enforcement of a CIETAC arbitral award in Hong Kong against a Hong Kong property developer and its associated entities, and advising the client in the related proceedings and arbitrations both in Hong Kong and PRC.
  • Acting for a property developer in Hong Kong Court proceedings, resisting the enforcement of an arbitral award made by CIETAC in Beijing. Also advised client in related proceedings and arbitrations in Hong Kong the PRC.

  • Acting for a Hong Kong main contractor to defend arbitration proceedings relating to the piling works in 2 residential development projects brought by its sub-contractor.
  • Acting for a Macau contractor to commence arbitration proceedings against the main contractor in relation to a hotel project in Macau.
  • Acting for a Macau main contractor to commence arbitration proceedings against the employer in relation to a residential development project in Macau.
  • Acting for a Hong Kong main contractor to defend legal proceedings relating to the curtain wall works in a residential development project brought by a nominated sub-contractor.
  • Acting for a quasi-governmental entity to defend arbitration proceedings relating to a redevelopment project brought by its main contractor.
  • Acting for the Hong Kong Government in 4 sets of arbitration proceedings against a PRC corporation in relation to 4 projects in Hong Kong.
  • Acting for a Hong Kong developer to defend arbitration proceedings relating to the renovation works in a serviced apartment project brought by its main contractor.
  • Acting for a Hong Kong specialist contractor to defend legal proceedings relating to several MTRC projects brought by its sub-contractor.
  • Acting for a Hong Kong main contractor to defend legal proceedings relating to the road maintenance works in a Government road maintenance project brought by a sub-contractor.
  • Acting for a Hong Kong main contractor to defend arbitration proceedings relating to the cladding works in the Hong Kong International Airport brought by its sub-contractor.

  • Acting for a public body in a mediation with its main contractor relating to disputes arising from construction of boundary control point buildings and associated facilities.
