Jeff is a Partner in Deacons’ Patent and Designs Group. He is a Registered Australian Patent Attorney, with qualifications in Science, Law and postgraduate qualifications in Intellectual Property and Information Technology. Admitted as a Solicitor in Hong Kong, and Queensland and New South Wales (non-practising), he brings his technical and legal expertise to patent and design prosecution and infringement issues in Hong Kong and the region.
Jeff has previously worked as a Patent Examiner with the Australian Patent Office, examining and conducting searches on patent applications as an examiner in the electronics and computing section.
His areas of technical competency include aspects of information technology including network technologies, software development and various programming languages as well as electro-mechanical inventions.
Jeff's practice includes patent specification drafting and prosecution of patents including strategic advice on filing and prosecution strategies in China, Europe, United States, Hong Kong, Australia and other substantive jurisdictions across a wide range of technologies including photonics, general optics, network security protocols, mechanical devices, consumer electrical devices, plastics, small household appliances, gaming machine technology, computer data structures, genetic technologies and bioinformatics drafting and prosecution, providing freedom-to-operate advice and general patent portfolio management.
Providing litigation support, infringement and validity analysis in relation to patent infringement action on behalf of international supplier of household appliances;
Infringement and enforcement analysis for US listed company in medical diagnostic technology;
Strategic infringement and enforcement advice in relation to multi-jurisdictional advertising of electronic devices;
Drafting and prosecution of patent applications for the Hong Kong branch of multinational corporations in China, Europe and United States.
