My first Deacons Encounter
Joining the firm as a Registered Foreign Lawyer
Joining Deacons is one of the best decisions I made. Having grown-up in Malaysia, I wanted exposure to international clients and the diversity of the transactions they do.
As the largest and oldest independent law firm in Hong Kong, Deacons offers a dynamic and intellectually stimulating working environment where one is exposed to a wide range of work and ample opportunities to grow and develop. What impressed me most is Deacons has a longstanding commitment to offer a platform for aspiring women to accomplish their career goals.
The partners are supportive and provide valuable guidance in terms of work and career development. The team is excellent – everyone from a partner, associate, trainee to paralegal is helpful and willing to share knowledge and practical experience.
As a funds lawyer, I assist clients on various aspects of private and public funds. For public funds, my role includes advising and assisting clients in getting their funds authorised by the Securities and Futures Commission in Hong Kong and on post-authorisation and regulatory issues. For private funds, I advise clients in the structuring and formation of offshore hedge funds and private equity funds as well as general partner and management company entities. I also advise clients in connection with their investments in private equity funds.
I was trained in Malaysia and worked as a corporate lawyer there before joining Deacons in 2007. My career in Deacons has been relatively smooth as I have supportive partners and colleagues throughout the journey. I qualified as a solicitor in Hong Kong in 2009 and was promoted as a partner in 2013.
I enjoy working out in the gym – it’s a good way to release stress especially after a hard day at work. I love travelling not only to see beautiful sceneries but also to experience the diverse cultures and food.
