CURRENT POSITIONS AVAILABLE

We are seeking a high calibre and experienced paralegal to join our Commercial Litigation Practice Group.  The role is to provide legal support to lawyers within the practice group, including document review and indexing, research, preparation of court documents and bundles, drafting simple correspondence, liaising with clients and third parties, and translation work.  

Requirements:

  • Holder of a law degree (LLB) or a diploma in law/legal studies or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a law firm/the legal industry
  • Excellent command of English and Chinese (both written and oral)
  • Proficiency in Putonghua is not necessary, but would be an advantage
  • Hard working, highly organised and enthusiastic
  • Analytical, with good attention to detail
  • Ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication (written and oral ) and proof-reading skills
  • A team player, but able to work independently
  • Computer literacy - well versed in MS Office, Word and Excel

Requirements:

  • Formal secretarial training
  • At least 3 years of legal secretarial experience
  • Excellent English and Chinese languages skills. Proficiency in Putonghua is an added advantage
  • Good English audio typing skill
  • Well versed in MS Word (English and Chinese word processing skills) and Excel
  • Attention to detail, organized and self-motivated
  • Ability to work under pressure and willingness to work overtime

 

  • Preparing and drafting bills for approval, finalizing and sending approved bills to clients for payments
  • Maintained all data and matter files properly on Elite/Inprotech and BTMA/DHK systems
  • Secondary graduate or above
  • Relevant experience with accounting/e-billing systems, well versed in MS Word, Excel and Chinese Word Processing
  • Good command in both the English and Chinese languages

The role will be providing legal support to the Funds team and will include but not limited to the following duties:

  • assisting in the preparation, processing and following up of licence applications
  • assisting and supporting other duties within the compliance and regulatory practice group
  • assisting in the co-ordination and liaison with regulatory authorities and clients

 Requirements:

  •  A degree holder in legal or financial studies or other related professional discipline
  • Good understanding and knowledge of the financial services industry including funds management, compliance and regulatory functions

The primary objective of this role is to advise financial services clients, and in particular fund managers, in relation to their Hong Kong SFC licensing requirements and to handle the preparation, processing and follow up of SFC license applications. Some secretarial support will be available for the position.

Responsibilities:

  • preliminary assessments on the proposed activities of companies and individuals and provide advice on type of SFC licence required
  • new individual SFC licence applications and in due course new and other corporate applications
  • assistance in responding to SFC enquiries
  • notifications to and on-going regulatory filings with the SFC
  • advice on on-going regulatory requirements and business compliance related matters

The successful candidate will also need to be able to interact with clients and contacts as a “trusted compliance advisor” and to develop and maintain good relationships with relevant persons at the SFC.  

The successful candidate will need to maintain a flexible approach and be able to accommodate new and varied work flows. At times may be required to assist on other regulatory and compliance matters within the compliance unit. 

Applicants with experience in the following areas will be preferred: 

  • SFC licence applications
  • SFC licence maintenance including ongoing filings 

Requirements: 

  • a degree holder (in law or other business related discipline)
  • prefer at least 2 years of financial industry experience and preferably with an asset manager
  • prefer some knowledge of how the securities and asset management industries operate and familiarity with the relevant regulatory requirements
  • preferably have worked at the Licensing Department of the SFC and ideally at assistant manager level 1 or higher
  • a good communicator with good interpersonal communication skills
  • a bright and quick learner with careful attention to detail
  • a good team player with good team spirit
  • the ability to handle direct client communications and meetings professionally and competently, while always keeping their supervisors fully involved and informed
  • instill confidence in seniors, partners and clients
  • native spoken and written mandarin, and excellent English verbal and drafting skills
