Infringement and enforcement of IP in the metaverse – time for a metastrategy

Deacons will host a webinar of our “IP in Business – Deacons Afternoon Tea Series” entitled “Infringement and enforcement of IP in the metaverse – time for a metastrategy” on Thursday, 24 November 2022.

The rapid development of the metaverse means that increased IP infringement in the virtual world is inevitable. This will have a real world impact on how businesses protect and enforce their intellectual property assets. The advent of the metaverse raises questions as to whether and how the existing law should be applied to virtual situations. In this webinar, we will explore how IP rights are enforced in the metaverse and discuss what businesses need to know including:

1. What kind of IP rights exist in the metaverse, including those in NFTs and blockchain domains
2. How different kinds of IP might be infringed and case studies on enforcement actions taken by IP owners
3. Challenges of jurisdiction and enforcement including tracking infringement and infringers, identifying enforcement mechanisms and examining the role of platform owners
4. Tips for IP owners navigating the metaverse

Our “Afternoon Tea Series” aims to discuss some of the practical IP issues encountered by our clients today. Each session will focus on sharing knowledge in a particular IP area. They are designed to be an interactive forum for those interested in a specific area of IP law to discuss strategies and share knowledge, helping us to understand your concerns and leading to a better partnership with our clients.
