Deacons’ corporate social responsibility initiative wins at the Best Corporate Volunteer Service Project Competition

Deacon’s award-winning corporate social responsibility programme, The ABCs of Law, won the first-runner up prize at the Annual Corporate Volunteer Service Project Competition.

Organised by the Social Welfare Department of the HKSAR Government, the award recognises those companies that have developed sustainable and innovative volunteer projects, addressing community needs and integrating core values of volunteering into daily life.

The ABCs of Law is an initiative of Deacons’ corporate social responsibility programme, Deacons Cares.  It is an educational programme Deacons developed and implemented with the Hans Andersen Club.  The programme is designed to help children in Hong Kong learn fundamental legal concepts such as the rule of law, and other knowledge including contractual obligations and intellectual property rights.

During the programme, Deacons volunteers led various interactive workshops either at the Hans Anderson centres or Deacons’ office.  Through drama and special learning kits designed for different topics, children were encouraged to participate and express their views in small group discussions.  Other activities such as office tours and visiting the Legislative Council Complex were also highlights of the programme.

Deacons has also won the Citizenship Award at The Asian Lawyer Asia Legal Awards, based on the achievements of the ABCs of Law programme.
