Deacons advises on Hollywood co-financing deal for Golden Globe winner

Deacons recently advised on the formation of a partnership between Alpha Animation, a Chinese online gaming company, Catchplay, a Taiwan-based distributor, and the executive producers, relating to a novel multi-picture co-financing and distribution arrangement with New Regency Productions.

The first New Regency film to be released under the deal is The Revenant, which took top prizes at this year’s Golden Globes on 10 Jan 2016, including Best Motion Picture – Drama, Best Actor – Drama for star Leonardo DiCaprio and Best Director for Alejandro G. Inarritu.

The critically acclaimed film has also received nominations at the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards and at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTAs) for Best Film and Best Actor as well as 6 other categories. With the Oscars just around the corner, the film is set to be a commercial and critical success.

The deal was led by financial services partner Robert Woll, corporate commercial partner Machiuanna Chu and financial services senior associate Fiona Fong.
