During the meetings of the Guangzhou Municipal People's Congress (广州市人民代表大会), the Mayor of Guangzhou, Mr. Chen Jian Hua (陈建华) delivered the Annual Report on the Work of the Government on behalf of the Guangzhou Government. Franki was received, among other Guangzhou CPPCC members from Hong Kong and Macau, by the new Party Secretary Mr. Ren Xue Feng (任学锋), the Mayor and other senior government officials from Guangzhou Municipality. He also had the opportunity to meet with senior representatives from the Guangzhou Bureau of Commerce and other departments to exchange views on the draft Foreign Investment Law, related legislation and policies governing foreign investments in Guangzhou as well as the new free trade zones to be set up in Tianjin, Fujian and Guangdong Provinces.
Following the meetings, Franki was interviewed by the press including major local newspapers, Southern Metropolis Daily and Yangcheng Evening News. He discussed trends and latest developments related to foreign direct investment in Guangzhou.
Prior to the meetings, Franki prepared and submitted a proposal to establish a new division in the Guangzhou Nansha International Arbitration Centre, specialising in the maritime logistics business. The proposal was prepared with the assistance of Minning Wei in our Guangzhou Office and Chan Yuet Wa in our Hong Kong Office, both of the Corporate Commercial Group. The proposal was reviewed preliminarily by a special committee and subsequently accepted for submission to the Guangzhou Government for further consideration.
Through his role as a CPPCC member and his involvement with the Guangzhou Government, Franki is strengthening Deacons’ existing ties with the government and promoting the firm's professional profile in the local business community.
